Mt Ninderry Environmental Reserve Draft Landscape Plan - Rock Climbing
22nd July 2024
By ACAQ
ACAQ considers that Rock Climbing should be recognised in the Management Plan for Mount Ninderry Environmental Reserve as a long standing, existing and compati ble use of the Reserve. We consider that it should be signed as being permitted at Mount Ninderry so it is not restricted in terms of Local Law 4. The Draft Mount Ninderry Environment Reserve Landscape Plan states that it ‘ sets the direction for future walking trails and infrastructure that will expand opportunities for nature-based recreati on, educati on and cultural tourism on Mount Ninderry. This plan offers opportunities for the community to appreciate and enjoy Mount Ninderry Environment Reserve without compromising the site’s significant ecological and cultural values’.
Climbers are prepared and willing to work with relevant land managers, user groups and Traditional Owners to manage or mitigate any impact our recreational use may have on ecological or cultural values, whether by avoiding certain time periods, flora / fauna or consideration of other user groups. The existing Climbers Code of Conduct can help formulate management plans. ACAQ believes that climbers, as a motivated, invested user group, should have legitimate access to the cliff lines and associated access tracks around the cliffs at Mount Ninderry.
