Beerwah rainfall closures

With all the wet weather in recent months, climbers are being impacted by the QPWS policy to close Mt Beerwah for at least 7 days post significant local rainfall.  ACAQ recently wrote to QPWS arguing that where such closures occur, they should be limited to the summit track and other areas impacted by the increased rockfall risk identified in the engineering report on which the policy is based.  ACAQ considers that there is no justification for these rainfall closures extending to areas, such as Wayne’s World, which have separate access and outside the fall zone form the ‘higher risk area’.
